Play For Jessie May: We need your votes!

We are pleased to announce that Jessie May have been shortlisted for GamesAid 2019 – but we need your votes to be in with a chance of receiving this extra funding!

GamesAid is a charity that raises funds on behalf of the gaming industry, and last year raised over £200,000 to split out to 9 different charities across the UK that specialise in supporting disabled and disadvantaged children and young people.

This year we’re taking on the motto ‘Play For Jessie May’, highlighting just how pivotal the power of play and the effect that gaming and the advancements in technology can have on the lives of children who are limited by their illness.

Virtual reality fun for Jessie May teenagers

In 2018 we were invited by AirHop Bristol to have an exclusive, private session on their new immersive AirVR experience. We took 3 of our teenage boys over to the trampoline park where they had an experience that was out of this world.

AirHop was delighted to welcome Jessie May staff and 3 wonderful teenagers for an afternoon of VR. Sam Newman, our VR Expert, put together a series of VR games and experiences that were specifically chosen to allow the boys the opportunity to experience new worlds in VR.

Watching them experience being alongside a blue whale on ‘Into the Blue’ and their reaction to being swallowed by a T-Rex in our dinosaur-themed VR roller-coaster ride will live long in my memory.” Ian Perrett, General Manager at AirHop.

How can you help?

If you, or anyone you know, work in the UK gaming industry, or are studying a gaming related course at college or University, then you can vote for Jessie May to receive funding from GamesAid. All you need to do is sign up as a GamesAid member (for FREE!), and you’ll be emailed your voting card.

With this extra funding we can help to bring more immersive respite days to all of our children, giving them an experience they never dreamed they could have.

Voting is now open, and ends Thursday 15th August 2019. You can find out how to join and cast your vote on the GamesAid website here.
