Here at Jessie May we are a very small team, led by our Chief Executive Officer Chris Roys. We also have a Fundraising Team, a mixture of Children’s Nurses and Nursery Nurses, and an office admin team. We are supported by an Extended Team of Nurses and Nursery Nurses. All nursing personnel are employed through a local NHS Trust, University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust (UHBristol), but are paid for by the funds that Jessie May needs to raise each year.

Jessie May is responsible in-house for the recruitment of all other positions.

Vacancy: Band 5 Nurse

Band 5 Nurse, Jessie May Community Children’s Nurses (Bristol, South Gloucestershire, North Somerset and BANES), 30 hours per week

Salary: £23,023 – £29,608 depending on experience.

Hours: 30 hours per week

Location: Bristol (Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire and BANES)

An exciting position has become available for a Band 5 Nurse to join Jessie May, the children’s hospice at home charity. This role is fully funded by Jessie May, but employed through the NHS, providing NHS employee rights and benefits.

Jessie May Nurses provide vital respite care and support for children with life limiting conditions in their homes in Bristol, South Gloucestershire, North Somerset, Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire. Jessie May is an innovative and growing charity which has provided these free services to families since 1996. The terminally ill children we care for are at the heart of everything we do.

About the role

We are looking for a passionate and committed Nurse to join our friendly team and help ensure that we maintain our high quality of service as our caseload grows and we reach more families in new areas.

The ideal candidate for this position will be an experienced, enthusiastic Band 5 Nurse who is passionate about making a difference to children’s lives, and building relationships with the families they spend time with.

Jessie May Nurses support each family at home, offering a range of outreach services to support both the child and their family from initial diagnosis, regular ongoing nursing and respite support, through to the intensive and highly specialised end of life care, and subsequent bereavement support for the family after the loss of their child.

The role’s main responsibilities include:

Supporting the children at respite days such as Woodside, Bowling, ice skating, Cinema and going to the seaside.

This position is based in the Jessie May Head Office at Kingswood Estate in Kingswood, East Bristol. The office offers free parking, an on-site café, good transport links, and is surrounded by an urban oasis. View the office on maps here.

We provide in house training and have access to UHBristol training and study days, access to regular safeguarding and clinical supervision.
